IWJV Project Funding

Joint Venture Project Funding Assistance Objective

The purpose of this funding program is long-term conservation of bird habitat through partnerships within the bounds of the Intermountain West Joint Venture. Joint Venture funds will be provided where funding is required to initiate or complete funding of projects (1) which support the mission and objectives of the Joint Venture, and (2) exhibit a broad-based partnership. Acceptable projects are defined under project guidelines below.

Our Mission

The IWJV mission is accomplished by developing partnerships with individuals and entities who are dedicated to the conservation of bird habitat, providing funding to bird habitat conservation partners, and facilitating the North American Wetlands Conservation Act (NAWCA) grant process, Farm Bill programs and other habitat funding sources. The IWJV serves a large portion of the Intermountain West and includes all or a portion of the eleven (11) western states of Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.

Status of the IWJV Project Funding Program

The IWJV has awarded over $1.95 million in JV funding for habitat projects through the Project Funding Program since 2002. The current allocation marked the third funding cycle implemented during a 13-month period between September 2006 and October 2007, collectively allocating a total of $977,364 funds to 20 projects. Due to the multiple cycles in 2007 we will not be offering a Project Funding cycle in 2008.

The next cycle is tentatively planned for the spring of 2009. We are working closely with our partners to secure funding from NAWCA, Farm Bill programs, and other sources for habitat work in 2008. Please contact Coordinator, Dave Smith at (406) 493-0925 if you have a project that needs funding this year.
